This online training, for equipment technicians, will provide you with the knowledge to operate, maintain, service and troubleshoot the AMSCO® 400 Steam Sterilizer. With the purchase of this course, you have up to five attempts or six months to complete the training (whichever comes first).

Course Goal:
This course provides the student with the knowledge of how to operate the AMSCO 400 Steam Sterilizer and perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and adjustments. The student will learn the theory of operation, normal and service modes, functional descriptions of the major components and which components must be checked according to the Preventive Maintenance Guide.

Course Outcomes:
Operation & Controls

  • determine the size of the chamber and the model type for the AMSCO 400 steam sterilizer based on the model number
  • list the two steps necessary to power on the control
  • identify the steam supply valve and the water supply valve given a photograph of the sterilizer
  • list the six types of factory-programmed default cycles
  • explain the purpose of the automatic flush and drain system on steam generator equipped units
  • describe the two steps taken to initiate a cycle
  • list the four steps required to enter service mode
  • identify the seven components of the main control assembly
  • identify the three components of the display panel assembly
  • list and locate the three RTDs on the small and medium AMSCO 400 steam sterilizer

Piping

  • explain the difference between a normally open valve and a normally closed valve in the de-energized and energized states
  • list the three required manifolds and one optional manifold on the small AMSCO 400 steam sterilizer
  • list and describe the purpose and function of the nine solenoid valves that are used on the small AMSCO 400 steam sterilizer for a single door configuration
  • identify the pathway of steam to the sterilizer jacket using the piping schematic
  • describe the two purposes of cold water for the sterilizer
  • identify the pathway of cold water through the sterilizer piping using the piping schematic
  • describe the two purposes and function of the heat exchanger
  • describe the pathway that steam must take in order for the small AMSCO 400 door seals to become pressurized/depressurized for both single door and double door configurations
  • describe the pathway that steam must take in order for the small AMSCO 400 door seals to become pressurized/depressurized for both single door and double door configurations.
  • list the pressure setting for the pressure switches to actuate the door seal for a small AMSCO 400 sterilizer and for a medium AMSCO 400 sterilizer.
  • describe the circumstances in which the emergency exhaust valve should be used
  • describe the purpose of the chamber water sensor
  • describe the two main piping differences between a medium AMSCO 400 sterilizer and a small AMSCO 400 sterilizer

Preventive Maintenance

  • explain the importance of placing the ProConnect module into “machine status” while performing maintenance on the sterilizer
  • describe where to locate the appropriate maintenance schedule for the given sterilizer
  • discuss the importance of wearing appropriate PPE while working on the sterilizer
  • locate the solenoid valves on the given sterilizer and test them for proper function and leakage
  • locate and explain how to replace the door seal pressure switch on the medium sterilizer
  • locate and explain the function of the steam traps on the given sterilizers and explain how to rebuild a trap
  • locate and explain the purpose of the safety valve on the given sterilizers and explain how to replace it
  • locate the air filter on the given sterilizers and explain how to replace it
  • locate and explain the function of the PRV on the given sterilizers and describe where to locate the directions for rebuilding it
  • locate and explain the function of the steam diffuser on the given sterilizers and explain how to replace it
  • locate and explain the function of the check valves on the given sterilizers and explain how to replace one
  • locate the vacuum pump and the Zerk grease fittings on the medium sterilizer
  • locate and explain the function of the door lock cylinder on the medium sterilizer
  • locate the chamber water level indicator on the given sterilizer and explain how to test for proper operation
  • explain how to check the chamber door for proper operation
  • describe how to check the transfer car operation on a medium AMSCO 400 sterilizer
  • explain how to perform final operational tests on the given sterilizer

  • describe the four-step troubleshooting method
  • explain two common piping problems and how to resolve them
  • explain two common mechanical problems and how to resolve them
  • explain two common electrical problems and how to resolve them
